Since December 2017, the Egyptian Government has made the process of obtaining an entry visa much easier for forty-six countries. This was instituted to speed up and simplify the procedure of obtaining an Egypt visa instead of waiting in line upon arrival or requesting a traditional visa from an Egyptian embassy. Portugal is one of the countries that require an entry visa, but this process is now quick and easy with the eVisa for Egypt which can be obtained online.
Prior to 2017, the entry process involved contacting the Egyptian Consulate or Embassy for a visa, and the process was time-consuming, and long, compared to the current eVisa.
The simple online Egyptian eVisa application process takes only minutes and can be completed from the comfort of your home. If you meet the visa entry requirements, you will be asked to answer a few security questions, and pay an online visa application fee.
The new eVisa is for tourists only and used for entry into Egypt by land, sea, and air.
In December 2017, the Egyptian Government initiated the need for 46 countries, including the United States and the European Union, including Portugal, to apply online for an Egypt Visa. This visa will allow entry and a stay of up to 30 days for tourists.
Portuguese citizens will need to ensure they respect the following Egyptian eVisa requirements ahead of going online to apply for your Egypt visa.
You will need a valid e-mail address. As your e-visa will be sent to you via email, it is important to provide a valid email address. Once the application is completed and you have paid for the visa, you will receive an email with the eVisa attached. Therefore, it is vital to the process that you ensure this email address is correct.
You must supply a valid passport. Portuguese citizens traveling to Egypt must have a current passport that is valid for at least six (6) months after your arrival date.
Visitors to Egypt from Portugal will be asked to provide a scanned image of the biographical page from their passport. This is something you need to have before starting the application process.
It is also necessary to have a valid means of making an online payment. When you complete the application process for your visa, you will need a current valid credit or debit card.
Eligible citizens from Portugal looking to visit Egypt with the eVisa must fill out the online application form by introducing their name, surname, date of birth, and nationality as well as the following info from your passport:
Applicants should also provide a valid email address and current telephone contact number. Finally, you will be asked about the purpose of your visit to Egypt and travel information. Be sure to have all the information and documents on hand.
The Egypt eVisa should be paid via credit card or debit card. Your application will not be processed without payment. Please note: It can take up to 7 business days for your application to be processed.
Portuguese applicants will receive their eVisa by email, which should be printed and presented with the corresponding passport upon arrival in Egypt. Please note it is highly recommended to also scan/photograph this document and keep a copy on your smartphone or tablet, just in case you lose the printed document.
Once you receive your documents, the e-Visa is valid for up to 3 months from the issue date.
In addition to carrying a copy of your eVisa with you, Portuguese visitors should also take a copy of their travel itinerary as well as information pertaining to where in the country you plan to travel, and where you will be staying.
