Situated by the Red Sea, Hurghada is one of the main tourist centers in Egypt. The vast majority of visitors need a Hurghada visa for Egypt, as any other port of entry in Egypt does.
The only 9 nationalities who are eligible for visa-free entry into Hurghada are citizens from the following countries: Bahrain, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macao, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia.
Over 40 nationalities, including citizens of the US, all EU countries, Russia, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, have the option of obtaining a visa on arrival in Hurghada or an electronic visa online. Here is a full list of the nationalities who are eligible for the Hurghada Egypt e-Visa and the visa on arrival.

The process of obtaining a visa on arrival at Hurghada International Airport is usually quite fast but long queues are not unusual. To save time and hassle, many travelers choose to obtain an electronic Hurghada visa as the online application only takes a few minutes to complete.
Most visitors enter Hurghada by plane though it is also possible to enter by sea. The process of obtaining a visa on arrival is usually slower if entering the city this way. Although you can drive into Hurghada, the city does not border any other countries.
The 2 most common types of short-stay visas for entering Hurghada (or Egypt in general) are the visa on arrival and the Egypt e-Visa. Nationalities who are not eligible for either (and who are not eligible for visa-free entry) can obtain short-stay tourist visas from an Egyptian embassy or consulate.
Certain types of visas, including long-stay visas such as work and study visas, are only available from Egyptian embassies or consulates. Both the visa on arrival and the e-Visa are designed for short-stays for tourism purposes.
Though the visa on arrival has its advantages, overall the e-Visa involves less time and hassle. Secondly, it is available as a single or multiple-entry visa depending on the needs of the traveler.
The single-entry visa allows visitors to the enter for a stay of up to 30 days. The multiple-entry visa allows people to enter multiple times, over a period of 90 days, as long as the total number of days spent in Egypt does not exceed 30 days.
The main benefit of the visa on arrival is that it does not require travelers do do anything before arriving in Egypt. It is necessary to apply for the e-Visa at least 7 days before setting off for Egypt so it is not an option for people who fly last-minute. Both visas require a fee.
The Hurghada Egypt e-Visa application form only takes a few minutes to complete and it can potentially save travelers hours upon arrival. Applicants can complete the form from the comfort of their own home and it just involves entering some basic information and paying a fee using a credit or debit card.
The required information includes the applicant’s personal details (such as name, address, date of birth etc.), passport details (including the number and expiry date), and travel plans (such as flight dates and times). There are also some questions related to security, health and the applicant’s background.
Applications take up to 7 days to process but applications are often approved quicker. Nonetheless, applicants should apply with sufficient time to allow their application to be processed.
Once an application has been successfully processed, a copy of the visa is sent to the traveler by email. A copy of the visa can be printed and presented at Hurghada to gain entry (along with the traveler’s passport).
